Chess24 Premium Membership : Is It Really Worth It?

Posted on October 10, 2021August 20, 2022 by Nikhil Dixit

Chess24 is currently becoming very popular after Play Magnus Group purchased it in 2019. Chess24 mainly focuses on video courses ebooks and banter Blitz. Recently they have started their own premium Arena tournaments exclusively for only premium members. Recently chess24 also organized the Meltwater Champions chess tour 2021 which was won by World Champion Magnus Carlsen. In this article, we will see the features of chess24 premium membership in detail.

About chess24

chess24

chess24 was initially started by Jan Gustafsson in 2014. Chess24 offers a wide variety of features to its free users and premium users. It is the third most popular website to play chess after chess.com and lichess.  Chess24 also offers a variety of courses on other platforms with the collaboration of famous chess players like Viswanathan Anand, Peter Svidler, and many other famous grandmasters. They also organized world-class online events such as the Julius Bear chess tour and Banter blitz cup.

Chess24 premium membership Pricing

Chess 24 offers only one type of membership which is the Premium Membership. They offer Premium Membership at $14.99 per month or $149.99per year. Chess24 also offers a coupon code that allows users to get discounts between 25 to 30%. After applying the coupon code users can purchase a membership in the range $100 to $120.

Chess24 pricing is a little bit more expensive than its competitors but they also provide a lot of benefits on their website and their partner websites such as Chessable and Aimchess.

Benefits of registering on the chess24 website

chess24 premium

1- Play with strong players – Recently chess 24 developed their play zone where you can play chess with strong players.  Also if you are a premium member then you will get to play premium members-only arena tournaments in which many Grandmaster participates. This tournament happens quite often

2- Watch free video courses – They also offer free video courses by Viswanathan Anand.  this course is suitable for beginners.  you can click on this link and watch a full course by signing up.

3- Read high-quality blogs – chess24 also updates its blog frequently. They post various news on their platform with analysis by top players. That blog will help you to get many insights and help in your chess career.

4- Tactics trainer – You will find this feature on most of websites. There are also many websites that provide you with tactics such as lichess.org and chess.com. Chess24 also offers a similar feature. The puzzle offered is difficult compared to other websites.

5- Watch live streams – This is the feature that will help you to improve your chess game. They do commentary on top chess tournaments and you can watch that for absolutely free.

Chess24 premium membership benefits

Let’s see some of the benefits which are exclusively offered to premium members.

1- Chess Video Library – chess 24 offers a wide variety of video libraries by world-class coaches. Their video library covers the opening, endgame, middlegame, strategic development, positional play, Best games series, etc. 24 video series are useful for beginner to even title players also. Here are some of my personal fav series.

2- Train with Masters series – This is the reason why I purchased a chess 24 premium membership. Recently they have launched their train with masters series in which they post actual coaching session videos by top grandmasters. Trainers include Surya Shekhar Ganguly and Super Grandmaster Boris Gelfand. All videos are high quality and recommended for 1800+ rated players.

3- Banter Blitz – In a Banter Blitz, you can play with some of the top players in the world such as Ding Liren, Magnus Carlsen, Anish Giri, etc. Honestly, banter Blitz is not that worth it if we compare your time because there is a huge waiting list of premium members to play with world-class players. You will get one bleeds game with them but you have to wait for at least 30 to 45 minutes to get shared with them.

4- Premium arena-only tournaments – chess 24 started organizing premium arena-only tournaments in which the top Grandmaster also participates. Also, distribute prizes in form of merchandise.

5- more benefits exclusively for premium members

  • Automated analysis of your Playzone games
  • Analyze with friends or coach your students live
  • Save your analysis
  • Premium chat rooms
  • Exclusive board pieces and sets
  • Early access to new features

Alternatives to chess24 membership

Currently, there are very limited popular chess websites that are really 8 alternatives to chess24. chess.com is the number one website in the world and definitely, chess.com is and will be the biggest competitor for chess24. Also, there are few competitors such as lichess.org and Chessbase.

Chess.com diamond vs chess24 premium membership

I will post a different article about this., but let’s see some major differences between Chess.com diamond and Chess24 premium membership.

  • Both memberships provide video series but I feel the chess.com video series is dedicated to beginners and intermediate players whereas the chess24 video series can be watched by beginners and titled players also.
  • chess.com membership costs $99 and chess24 membership costs $149.99. There is a clear difference of $50.

4- Chess24 features which are not offered by chess.com

  • Train with grandmasters
  • Banter blitz
  • Premium arena tournament with prizes

In conclusion, we can see both memberships have there are certain pros and cons but in the end, both are promoting chess and that’s what matters a lot.
